Amarna Tomb 1

Tomb 1 of the Amarna North Necropolis is the rock-cut burial chamber of Huya, a senior court official under the heretic Pharaoh Akhenaten in the 14th century BCE. Huya held the titles Overseer of the Royal Harem and Steward to Queen Tiye — Akhenaten's mother and one of ancient Egypt's most influential royal women, who appears to have resided at Amarna toward the end of her life. The tomb's wall reliefs are of particular scholarly significance because they depict a princess named Baketaton, otherwise unattested in any other confirmed ancient Egyptian source, leaving her identity and parentage unresolved to this day. Visitors enter a limestone-hewn chamber with figural scenes documenting Amarna court life during one of antiquity's most singular religious experiments — Akhenaten's brief monotheistic revolution centered on the solar deity Aten.
