Azoria

Azoria is a prominent hill in eastern Crete near the village of Kavousi, preserving overlapping Greek settlements from the Iron Age and Archaic periods. Excavations led by American archaeologists since the early 2000s have uncovered communal buildings, storage facilities, and domestic structures pointing to organized urban life between the 7th and early 5th centuries BC — a rare window into early Archaic Crete beyond the better-known Minoan sites. The elevated position also affords open views across the rolling landscape of eastern Crete toward the coast, roughly three kilometers away.
