Węgliniec railway station

Węgliniec railway station — known as Kohlfurt until 1945 — opened in 1846 and grew into the most important rail junction in the Polish part of Upper Lusatia. Its position at the crossroads of lines toward Wrocław, Görlitz, Lubań, and Żary made it a strategically vital interchange for both passenger and freight traffic throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. After the postwar border shift transferred the town to Poland, the station gradually shrank in scope; the last branch line, to Czerwona Woda, was closed in 1974. The station still operates as a regional hub today and retains architectural interest as a 19th-century brick junction station in the historically layered borderland of Lower Silesia.
