Göschenen railway station

Göschenen railway station sits at the northern portal of the Gotthard Tunnel in the canton of Uri and opened in 1882 alongside the Gotthard Railway. At the time, the roughly 15-kilometre summit tunnel was the longest railway tunnel in the world, making the line a landmark of 19th-century European engineering. The station building is listed as a Swiss cultural heritage site of regional importance, representing the functional station architecture typical of the late Gründerzeit era. Today it serves SBB intercity trains, the Swiss South-East Railway, and the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn, which connects Göschenen up the Reuss valley toward Andermatt.
