Sinuiju Chongnyon Station

Sinuiju station sits at the Chinese–North Korean border and has served as the gateway between the two countries since it opened in 1906 under Japanese colonial administration. Razed during the Korean War, it was rebuilt in the socialist architectural style of the 1950s and today marks the first stop inside North Korea for trains crossing the Friendship Bridge from Dandong. The P'yŏngŭi line connects it southward to Pyongyang, and the Kim Il-sung Square adjoins the station directly. For outside visitors the station is effectively inaccessible; it is most often glimpsed from the Chinese bank of the Yalu River, making it a rare, distant window onto one of the world's most sealed borders.
