Wittenberge railway station

Wittenberge railway station is a classicist-style listed building in the Brandenburg town of Wittenberge, protected as a Baudenkmal (architectural monument). Its significance stems from its geographic position: the station sits almost exactly halfway between Berlin and Hamburg, making it a natural junction where multiple rail lines converged from the early days of German rail. Through much of the 20th century it served as one of the DDR Reichsbahn's major marshalling yards, shaping the town's identity as a railway workers' community. Long-distance trains on the Berlin–Hamburg corridor still stop here, and the classicist station building survives largely intact despite the post-reunification decline in rail traffic.
