Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út

Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út is a station on Budapest Metro Line 1 — the Földalatti — the oldest electric underground railway on the European continent. The line was inaugurated in 1896 to mark the millennium of the Hungarian state and runs just beneath the grand Andrássy út boulevard. Positioned between Deák Ferenc tér and Opera, the station retains the characteristic shallow, boxy form of the original 1896 design: low ceilings, yellow-tiled walls, and narrow platforms. Riding through it means travelling on one of the very few 19th-century metro systems still in daily operation anywhere in the world.
