Blaha Lujza square

Blaha Lujza tér is an underground station on Budapest Metro line M2, opened in 1970 between Keleti pályaudvar and Astoria. It takes its name from Hungarian actress and opera singer Blaha Lujza (1850–1926), celebrated as the 'Nightingale of the Nation'. Built during the late socialist era, the station reflects the functional, unadorned aesthetic typical of Soviet-period metro construction. Above ground, the square of the same name sits on Rákóczi út, one of Budapest's main thoroughfares.
