Bartholomäusturm

The Bartholomäusturm is all that remains of the medieval church of St. Bartholomew, which once stood at the western end of the Anger in Erfurt's old town. The church itself was demolished over the centuries, leaving only its Gothic tower, now protected as a listed cultural monument in Thuringia. Erfurt was one of the most church-dense cities in the medieval Holy Roman Empire, and this solitary tower — nave-less, standing apart — offers a quietly arresting glimpse into that lost ecclesiastical landscape.
