Basílica Metropolitana de Medellín

The Catedral Basílica de Nuestra Señora de la Inmaculada Concepción is the metropolitan cathedral of Medellín and the seat of the Archdiocese. Completed in 1931 in a Neo-Romanesque style, it stands out across Latin America for being constructed entirely of brick masonry — a deliberate departure from the ornate Baroque stone churches typical of the region. Its rounded arches, three-nave basilica plan, and twin towers draw directly from 11th- and 12th-century Romanesque precedents. Facing Parque Bolívar in the city center, the cathedral serves as a gathering point for parishioners and visitors alike. Inside, muted light filters through the brick arcades, creating a contemplative atmosphere distinct from the gilded interiors of Colombia's colonial-era churches.
