Enryaku Temple
Kyoto
Pilgrimage basilica at 3,152 m with sweeping views over Bogotá — reachable by cable car or on foot.
Perched at 3,152 metres above Bogotá, the Monserrate Sanctuary is Colombia's most visited pilgrimage site. The mountain has drawn the faithful since the 17th century, when a fallen-Christ figure became the focus of devotion; the current basilica opened in 1920. Its gleaming white neo-Gothic façade is visible from across the city. Visitors can reach the summit by cable car, funicular, or a winding footpath lined with Stations of the Cross — all rewarded by sweeping views over the vast urban valley below. At the top, gardens, chapels, restaurants, and craft stalls create a lively atmosphere that blends the sacred with the festive.
