Bogotá's emblematic peak: a pilgrimage church at 3,152 m above a city of millions — reachable by cable car or on foot, with unbeatable panoramic views.
Cerro de Monserrate rises 3,152 metres above sea level on the southeastern edge of Colombia's capital Bogotá, and is the city's most recognisable landmark — visible from almost every neighbourhood. A pilgrimage church crowns its summit, housing a revered figure of the fallen Christ; thousands of faithful climb the mountain on foot each weekend as an act of devotion. Those preferring an easier ascent can take the cable car or funicular, which reach the top in minutes. Visitors are rewarded with a breathtaking 360° panorama over the eight-million-strong city and the vast Sabana de Bogotá plateau. Restaurants and small shops at the summit round out the experience.
