Mariánska hora

The Basilica of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary on Mariánska hora (Marian Hill) near Levoča is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in eastern Slovakia, holding the honorary title of Basilica minor within the Diocese of Spiš. The site has centuries of Marian devotion behind it — on the first weekend of July each year, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims ascend the wooded hill on foot, making it one of Central Europe's largest annual pilgrimages. The Neogothic church building is a listed heritage monument and its silhouette is visible from the historic town of Levoča below.
