Basilique Saint-Nicolas

The Basilique Saint-Nicolas is a Neogothic Roman Catholic parish church in the center of Nantes, built during the 1860s and classified as a historic monument since 1980. It holds the title of minor basilica and is dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Myra, one of the most venerated figures in Western Christianity. Despite its 19th-century construction, the building closely emulates the pointed arches, flying buttresses, and soaring nave proportions of medieval Gothic churches from the Île-de-France region. Damaged during World War II, it was subsequently rebuilt and remains one of two basilicas in the city alongside the Basilique Saint-Donatien-Saint-Rogatien. The interior is notable for its tall stained-glass windows that cast subdued, coloured light across the stone nave.
