Château de Clermont

Château de Clermont is a Louis XIII–style manor house built between 1643 and 1649 in Le Cellier, a commune in the Loire-Atlantique department just outside Nantes, and has been a listed Monument Historique since 1941. The estate passed through the hands of the de Maupassant family before becoming the private home of French comic actor Louis de Funès, who married into the family in 1943 and lived on the property until his death in 1983. De Funès — beloved in France for his manic roles in the Gendarme series and Asterix films — retreated to this rural estate between shoots, making Clermont an unlikely backdrop to one of French cinema's most celebrated careers. The château remains privately owned and is not open to visitors, though its parkland setting and film-history association draw curious fans from across France.
