Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle

The Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in San Juan, Texas, operated under the Diocese of Brownsville and drawing heavily from communities on both sides of the US-Mexico border. The present church was dedicated in 1980, replacing an earlier structure destroyed in 1970 when a small plane crashed into it — the devotional statue of the Virgin Mary survived unharmed, an event widely regarded by the faithful as miraculous. The shrine receives approximately one million pilgrims annually, making it one of the most visited Marian pilgrimage sites in North America. Devotion centers on the figure of Nuestra Señora de San Juan, enshrined at the altar.
