Bayerischer Plöckenstein

The Bayerischer Plöckenstein, at 1,365 metres, marks the highest point on the border between the Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau and the Czech district of Prachatice, forming a natural transition between the Bavarian Forest and the Šumava (Böhmerwald) range. The summit sits within dense, largely undisturbed mountain forest and lies at the edge of a cross-border nature protection corridor that connects to the Šumava National Park on the Czech side. Hikers approach via trails from the Freyung-Grafenau area or from Czech territory; on clear days the ridge offers open views deep into the rolling upland landscape of both countries. This is a quiet, infrastructure-free summit suited to walkers comfortable with unmarked forest terrain.
