Azad Kooh

Āzād Kooh — Persian for 'Free Mountain' — is a freestanding volcanic cone in Iran's central Alborz range, rising to 4,355 meters north of Tehran. Its name is apt: the peak stands in striking isolation above the high plateau near the village of Gachsar, east of the Karaj–Chalus mountain road. The ascent is technically moderate but physically demanding, rewarding climbers with sweeping views across the snowbound ridges of the Alborz. Far from the range's better-known summits, Azad Kooh sees little foot traffic — making it a genuinely quiet high-altitude experience.
