Michelfeld Abbey

Michelfeld Abbey was founded in 1119 as a Benedictine monastery near Auerbach in the Upper Palatinate, making it one of the oldest monastic foundations in the region. Like many Bavarian abbeys, it was dissolved during the Napoleonic-era secularization of the early 19th century. The surviving complex is now a listed historic monument and houses a facility of the Regens-Wagner Foundation, a social welfare organization. Its fabric of medieval masonry and later additions offers a tangible cross-section of a thousand years of regional building history.
