Fultenbach Abbey

Fultenbach Abbey was a Benedictine monastery in Holzheim, Bavaria, founded around 701 AD, making it one of the early medieval religious foundations in the Diocese of Augsburg. It functioned as a Benedictine community for over a millennium before being dissolved during the Bavarian secularization at the beginning of the 19th century, a wave that suppressed hundreds of monasteries across Bavaria. The remaining structures are protected as a Bavarian heritage monument. Due to the very limited surviving documentation, the site appeals primarily to those with a specific interest in early medieval monasticism or local Swabian ecclesiastical history rather than general visitors.
