Berchtesgaden Hauptbahnhof is the terminus of the Bad Reichenhall–Berchtesgaden railway line and the main transport hub for bus connections throughout the Berchtesgaden basin. Its station building is executed in the Heimatstil — an architectural idiom that drew on Alpine vernacular traditions to produce regionally rooted, decorative public buildings — and is listed as a protected monument in Bavaria alongside the platform canopies, a pedestrian footbridge, and a signal box. The main building is now in private ownership and not publicly accessible. For visitors, the station remains the practical gateway to Berchtesgaden National Park and the Königssee.
