Har Tavor

Mount Tabor rises as a distinctive dome-shaped hill 588 metres above the Jezreel Valley in northern Galilee, long venerated in Christian tradition as the site of the Transfiguration of Christ. Byzantine-era churches once crowned the summit; 12th-century Crusaders added a fortification whose stone remains are still visible today. The current Basilica of the Transfiguration, designed by Antonio Barluzzi and completed in 1924, incorporates fragments of both earlier structures into its twin-towered facade. The summit plateau commands sweeping views across the entire Jezreel Valley to Mount Carmel and the Jordan Rift, drawing pilgrims, hikers, and anyone drawn to the layered biblical and medieval history of the region.
