Berney Arms Windmill

Berney Arms Windmill is one of the tallest tower mills in Norfolk, rising above the flood marshes where the River Yare meets the southwestern edge of Breydon Water in the heart of the Norfolk Broads. It is among the most isolated accessible monuments in England: there is no road to it — visitors arrive by boat or on foot from Berney Arms station, one of the least-served railway halts in Britain with only a handful of trains per week. Managed by English Heritage as a scheduled ancient monument, the mill retains much of its 19th-century grinding machinery inside. The reward for making the journey is a sweeping, unobstructed view across reedbeds, drainage channels, and grazing marshes that has changed little in over a century.
