Besucherbergwerk Ramsbeck

The LWL-Museum Erzbergwerk Ramsbeck in Olsberg is one of the largest visitor mines in Westphalia, integrated since 2024 into the museum network of the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe. Lead and zinc ore was extracted here for centuries, with active mining only ceasing in 1974 — leaving machinery, tracks and tools largely in place, giving the site an unusually unmediated industrial atmosphere. Guided underground tours lead visitors deep into the tunnels at a constant nine degrees Celsius, tracing the working conditions of Sauerland miners across different eras. The tours are family-friendly and offer a concrete introduction to regional mining history and basic geology. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 9 am to 5 pm; admission fee applies.
