Industrial heritage
The Bergbaumuseum Peißenberg documents the history of coal mining in the Bavarian foothills, an industry that shaped the town of Peißenberg for nearly three centuries before the last mine closed in 1971. Peißenberg was once one of the southernmost hard-coal mining sites in Germany, a little-known chapter of Bavarian industrial history. Opened in 1988 and run by the local municipality, the museum displays mining tools, pit models, and personal accounts from former miners, preserving the memory of a trade that has since entirely disappeared from the region.
