Cardrona Bra Fence

Sometime in 1999, the first bras appeared on a wire fence along Cardrona Valley Road between Queenstown and Wanaka — and nobody has convincingly claimed credit since. What began as an anonymous act grew into a genuine roadside pilgrimage site: the last count put around 1,000 bras on the fence, in every color and size, many scrawled with personal messages. Local authorities tried to clear it on multiple occasions, but the collection always returned, seemingly replenished overnight. Today it's a regular stop on the road to the Cardrona Alpine Resort, valued precisely for its inexplicable, self-organizing absurdity.
