Big Dipper

The Big Dipper is a historic wooden roller coaster at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and one of the oldest continuously operating coasters in Britain. Designed by American engineer John A. Miller and opened on 23 August 1923, the ride was later expanded in 1936 by Charlie Paige and Joe Emberton, who added two further drops and a sweeping arch over the park's south entrance. Its Grade II listed status makes it a rare example of a heritage-protected fairground attraction. Today it delivers a rattling, old-school coaster experience on its unvarnished timber frame — a stark contrast to modern steel rides.
