Blobb Hill Castle

Aldford Castle is a Norman motte-and-bailey ruin in the Cheshire village of Aldford, protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The earthen motte sits just north of the medieval St John's Church, which was itself built over the filled-in ditch of the castle's outer ward — an unusually legible record of how Norman fortification and ecclesiastical building overlapped on the same ground. Little survives above the grass-covered mound today; the site is unexcavated and has no visitor facilities, making it a quiet find for anyone tracing the Norman footprint in the English countryside.
