Biggin Church

The Biggin Church Ruins in Berkeley County, South Carolina, are the weathered remains of an Anglican parish church first laid around 1711 to serve the congregation of St. John's Parish in Berkeley. What distinguishes the site is its three separate destructions by fire — in 1755, 1775, and again in 1781 during the American Revolutionary War — after which it was never rebuilt. The standing masonry dates to the 1761 structure, partially reconstructed in 1781 before being abandoned for good. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since December 13, 1977, the moss-covered brick walls stand today in quiet woodland near Moncks Corner, a remote spot where colonial history and ruin atmosphere converge in equal measure.
