Antrim Castle

Antrim Castle was a manor seat in the County Antrim town of the same name, built in several phases between 1610 and 1666 as part of the Ulster Plantation. The castle was gutted by fire in 1922 under disputed circumstances and left as a ruin, though its outer walls and the adjoining formal garden survived. That garden is among the rare intact 17th-century baroque layouts in Ireland, featuring clipped hedgerows, a canal, and ornamental ponds still maintained today. The surrounding castle grounds along the Sixmilewater River form the green heart of modern Antrim and remain open to visitors year-round.
