Ikuta Ryokuchi is the green heart of industrial Kawasaki, a wooded hilltop park between Tokyo and Yokohama. Across roughly 100 hectares it offers walking trails and a large rose garden, but also the Nihon Minka-en open-air museum with 25 farmhouses reassembled from across Japan. Add the Kawasaki City Museum, a planetarium and the Taro Okamoto Museum, dedicated to the expressionist artist behind the Tower of the Sun at Expo 1970. Kawasaki families come on weekends for pony rides and picnics; architecture lovers come for the thatched roofs.
