Borujerdis House

Borujerdis House in the oasis city of Kashan is a Qajar-era merchant palace built between 1857 and 1875 for the wealthy trader Seyyed Ja'far Natanzi, known as Borujerdi. Construction reportedly took 18 years and engaged over 150 craftsmen; stucco specialists and woodcarvers were recruited from across Persia to execute the elaborate interiors. The house's defining feature is its central badgir — a traditional wind-catcher tower that channels desert breezes through the structure, keeping it naturally cool in the summer heat. Designated as Iranian cultural heritage, the house is open to visitors today. Entering through a deliberately winding vestibule — a deliberate design to shield the private interior from the street — guests arrive at a central courtyard with a reflective pool, surrounded by layered facades of painted stucco and stained glass.
