La Salina Palace

The Palacio de la Salina is a noble palace built in 1538 in central Salamanca, widely regarded as one of the finest examples of Plateresque architecture in Castile — a distinctly Spanish early-Renaissance style characterized by densely carved ornamental facades resembling silversmith work. It was commissioned by Alfonso de Fonseca, Archbishop of Toledo and one of the most influential ecclesiastical patrons of 16th-century Spain. The two-story arcaded courtyard is considered among the best-preserved Renaissance courtyards in the city. Designated a Bien de Interés Cultural, the palace today houses part of the provincial government administration. It offers a quiet retreat from the nearby Plaza Mayor while showcasing some of Salamanca's finest stonework.
