Botanical Garden

Kiel's Botanical Garden is a scientific facility of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität, tracing its origins to 1669 and ranking among the oldest botanical gardens in northern Germany. Across roughly eight hectares and seven large display glasshouses, it presents a cross-section of plant life from every climate zone — tropical rainforests, succulents, and economic plants all under one roof or spread across open-air beds. Founded in the same year as the university itself, the garden has supported centuries of botanical research on campus. Admission is free and gates open daily from 9 a.m., with the warm glasshouses offering a particularly welcome escape during Kiel's grey winter months.
