Brekov

Brekov Castle is the ruin of a medieval hilltop fortification perched on a bare 256-metre hill in the Humenské vrchy highlands, a western spur of the Vihorlat range in eastern Slovakia. It commands a sweeping view over the gorge carved by the Laborec river, a position that made it a strategic waypoint along the valley route in the medieval period. The castle is listed as a protected monument in Slovakia, though precise founding dates remain uncertain in historical records. A hiking trail from the village of Brekov leads up to the exposed summit, where crumbling curtain walls and overgrown foundations mark the outline of the former stronghold.
