Husen Castle

Husen Castle is the ruin of a high-medieval hilltop fortress built from 1246 on a forested spur above the town of Hausach in the Kinzig valley, Baden-Württemberg. Like many castles along this valley, it commanded the trade route winding through the Black Forest — a position that made it both valuable and contested. The lords of Husen left few records, and the castle likely fell out of use during the shifting territorial struggles of the later Middle Ages. Today, remnants of the keep and curtain wall survive amid dense woodland. Visitors reach the ruin on foot through Black Forest trails, rewarded with open views down into the Kinzig valley that make the original military logic of the site immediately legible.
