Brömserburg

The Brömserburg in Rüdesheim am Rhein is one of the oldest surviving stone castles in the Rheingau and a foundational structure within the UNESCO Upper Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage Site. Its origins trace to around 1186, making it a rare example of early High Medieval fortification architecture in the region. The castle changed hands numerous times over the centuries — including periods under the Archbishopric of Mainz — before passing into private ownership during the 19th century. Today it houses the Rheingau Wine Museum, where historical winemaking tools and cellar equipment trace viticulture in the region across several centuries. The castle grounds offer direct views over the Rhine and the surrounding vineyard slopes, making it a natural stop along the Rhine Gorge.
