Larnaca Castle

Larnaca Castle is a medieval lowland fortress sitting directly on Larnaca's seafront promenade along Cyprus's southern coast. The site has Byzantine roots but took its present form largely under Ottoman rule following Cyprus's conquest in 1571, when the island fell to the Ottoman Empire after the siege of Famagusta. A small museum inside the courtyard covers medieval Cypriot history with finds from the Larnaca region, while the tower — historically used as a prison — can be climbed for views over the harbour and the Mediterranean. The castle is open Monday through Saturday, with extended evening hours until 19:30 in summer.
