C1974 Memorial Ship

The Ç1974 Memorial Ship is a commemorative installation in the Turkish-controlled northern part of Nicosia, marking the Turkish military intervention of 20 July 1974. That intervention followed a coup by the Cypriot National Guard against President Makarios III and resulted in the division of the island — a split that persists to this day. The self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, proclaimed in 1983, is recognized internationally only by Turkey. The memorial thus stands as a symbol of one of Europe's enduring unresolved territorial conflicts, of particular interest to visitors exploring the contemporary history of the divided island.
