Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis — St. Nicholas of the Roof — is a medieval Greek Orthodox church tucked into the Karyotis Valley in the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus. Its peculiar epithet refers to a steep protective outer roof added in the 14th century over the original Byzantine domed structure to shield it from the heavy mountain snowfall, giving the building its distinctive layered silhouette. Inside, frescoes spanning the 11th to 17th centuries survive in remarkable condition, forming one of the most complete cycles of Byzantine wall painting on the island — highlights include a rare Transfiguration scene and expressive portraits of saints. The church was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 as part of the Painted Churches of the Troodos region. Admission is free; the church is open Tuesday through Saturday 09:00–16:00 and Sunday from 11:00, closed Mondays.
