Burg Vichtenstein

Burg Vichtenstein rises prominently above the Danube valley in the Sauwald hills of Upper Austria, directly across from the Bavarian market town of Obernzell. The medieval hillside fortress is a protected monument and forms a striking silhouette visible from both banks of the river and the Austrian-German border stretch of the Danube. Little is publicly documented about its precise construction date or full ownership history, but the surviving tower and curtain walls point to a site chosen to command passage along the river.
