Castle Blankenheim

Burg Blankenheim is a hilltop castle rising above the village of Blankenheim in the Eifel region, one of the oldest noble seats in the area. Founded around 1115 by Gerhard I, it served for centuries as the ancestral home of the Blankenheim noble family, whose influence shaped the medieval Eifel. Today the castle is a listed monument under North Rhine-Westphalian heritage law. Visitors climb through the adjoining park grounds to reach the castle, where views across the rolling Eifel hills give a tangible sense of its original defensive purpose.
