The Burgruine Lichtenberg is the remains of a medieval spur castle perched at 558 metres on a rocky ridge at the western edge of the Selbitz valley in the Hof district of Upper Franconia, Bavaria. Spur castles exploited natural terrain promontories for defensive advantage, a design typical of Franconian upland fortifications. Listed as a Bavarian architectural monument, the surviving walls offer open views across the forested hills of Upper Franconia and the valley below. The ruin is reachable on foot and makes for a compact half-day excursion from the town of Lichtenberg.
