Paleozoological Museum of China

The Paleozoological Museum of China stands in Beijing's Xicheng district at Xizhimenwai Dajie 142, directly across from Beijing Zoo. It is the display arm of the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, whose predecessor goes back to 1929. Four floors hold skeletons and fossils of sauropods from Sichuan, feathered dinosaurs from the Liaoning Lagerstaette and cast skulls of Peking Man from Zhoukoudian. The hominid section is unusually well stocked with replicas from the Zhoukoudian cave site. The galleries feel deliberately old-school, with wooden cabinets and bilingual labels, and the museum pairs naturally with a zoo visit for families wanting a stop at the largest dinosaurs in East Asia.
