Museum of Evolution

The Evolution Museum belongs to the Institute of Paleobiology of the Polish Academy of Sciences and occupies the ground floor of the Palace of Culture in Warsaw. Its collection is built around finds from the Polish-Mongolian paleontology expeditions to the Gobi Desert in the 1960s and 1970s, which yielded some of the most spectacular dinosaur fossils ever recovered. On display are complete skeletons of Tarbosaurus and Gallimimus, plus the famous fighting pair of Velociraptor and Protoceratops. Tertiary vertebrates and Ice Age mammals such as the woolly mammoth round out the chronological story. The exhibition is small but scientifically rigorous and surprisingly quiet for a downtown museum. Visitors can trace the evolution of vertebrates in clear stratigraphic order.
