Natural History Museum

With over 30 million objects, the Museum fuer Naturkunde at Invalidenstrasse 43 in Berlin-Mitte is Germany's largest natural history museum; founded in 1810 as part of the Friedrich-Wilhelms-University, it has been an independent public-law foundation since 2009. The atrium holds the world's tallest mounted dinosaur skeleton - the 13.3-metre Brachiosaurus brancai from Tendaguru (Tanzania), excavated between 1909 and 1913. Other highlights include the Berlin Archaeopteryx ("first bird"), the taxidermied polar-bear cub Knut, the Tristan-Otto T. rex skeleton, and the mineral hall with meteorites from around the world. Since 2018 an entire wing has been devoted to research, showing rows of jars with alcohol specimens normally closed to the public.
