Beijing Nanyuan Airport

Beijing Nanyuan Airport was China's oldest airfield, 18 kilometres south of central Beijing in the Fengtai district. Opened in 1910 under the late Qing dynasty, it hosted the country's first powered-flight experiments and later combined military operations with civil service by China United Airlines. The dramatic new Daxing mega-airport, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, replaced it in September 2019, absorbing both its military and civilian roles. The site now lies vacant, the subject of redevelopment plans for southern Beijing. For aviation enthusiasts it remains a rare lost-place spanning more than a century of Chinese air history.
