Erciyes Dağı

Erciyes Dağı is a dormant stratovolcano rising to 3,917 metres in the heart of Cappadocia, making it the highest peak of central Anatolia and the defining landmark of Kayseri, which it overtops by nearly 2,900 metres. Millennia of volcanic ash deposits from its ancient eruptions have transformed the surrounding plateau into some of the most fertile agricultural land in the otherwise arid region. The lower slopes were historically frequented by semi-nomadic groups setting up seasonal pasture camps, a practice that lingered into recent decades. Today the mountain hosts a modern ski resort operational from November through April, while summer months open the routes to mountaineers aiming for summit views across Cappadocia's volcanic landscape.
