Aiplspitz

The Aiplspitz rises to 1,759 m above sea level in the Rotwandgruppe of the Bavarian Prealps, east of the Spitzingsee. The summit is composed of Plattenkalk, a layered limestone formation that sets it geologically apart from neighboring peaks. Its east and north flanks display prominent cirques — bowl-shaped hollows carved by glaciers during the last ice age — a distinctive enough feature to earn the mountain official designation as a Bavarian Geotop. Hikers typically approach from Spitzingsee or the Leitzach valley on well-marked trails requiring moderate fitness. The summit rewards with open views across the Prealps foothills toward Lake Tegernsee.
