Protestant Reformed Cemetery in Warsaw

The Evangelical Reformed Cemetery on ul. Zytnia 42 in Warsaw is the central burial ground of Poland's small Calvinist community. Opened in 1792 during the reign of Stanislaw August Poniatowski, the roughly 15,000-square-meter site in the Wola district holds family tombs of the Protestant bourgeois elite of the 19th century. Buried here are industrialists, bankers and scientists who shaped modern Warsaw, including members of the Werner, Gebethner and Wedel families. Despite heavy damage during World War II, many neoclassical monuments and cast-iron enclosures survive. Today the cemetery is a quiet, park-like space lined with old lindens and maples, still in active use. Visitors can wander winding paths and read inscriptions bearing German, Polish and French names side by side.
